Sunday School Crafts (Ezekiel 37:1-14) Bible Crafts for the Valley of Dry Bones

Dem Bones… Craft Ideas for Ezekiel’s Vision

Surprise! Dead things can come back to life! That’s the theme of these crafts, based on the odd vision that the prophet Ezekiel had. Ezekiel saw dry bones come back to life, reassuring him that God had plans for His people, and that new and better things would come. We can take hope in this story to know that God can breathe new life into our lives, and gives us hope for the future, no matter how tough things are. A “spring to life mummy” craft features a dead-decorated element with a surprise inside. A skeletal collage uses various elements to look like bones put together, as in Ezekiel 37. Have fun and get crafty!

Craft one: “Spring to Life Mummy”

You will need:

  • Paper towel or toilet paper tube
  • Crepe paper or tissue
  • Construction paper
  • Small “surprise” item (balloon, noisemaker, etc.)
  • Markers or crayons
  • Tape or glue

Procedure:

1. Decorate tube with some mummy features: Wrap with crepe paper or tissue, securing with tape or glue. Consider adding a face.

2. Create a caption with verses to attach to the “mummy”.

3. Carefully place a “surprise” inside the mummy: a balloon, noisemaker, or other fun element.

4. If desired, cover the bottom of the tube so that the extra “living” element emerges as a true surprise. Have fun celebrating the story and the hope of new life!

Craft Two: “Skeletal Collage”

You will need:

  • Q-tips
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Dry pasta noodles
  • Markers or crayons
  • Tape or glue
  • Scissors

Procedure:

. Choose items for “bones”: examples include, but are not limited to popsicle sticks, toothpicks, dry pasta noodles, or Q-tips. Get creative with choices!

On a construction paper or cardstock (Perhaps a dark one to emphasize the skeleton), draw the outline of a skeleton.

Glue or tape the long stick-like pieces to cover the outline as “bones”.

Add verses or captions to the artwork.

If desired, add a magnet or hanger to display the craft.

Verses or Captions to Consider… (Ezekiel 37:1-14)

And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”
-Ezekiel 37:14

So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. -Ezekiel 37:7

Dry bones come to life…God gives hope to the hopeless!

God brings new life!

If skeletons have hope, so do we! The joy of Ezekiel’s skeletal vision.
