Our Daily Bread — Craft Ideas for The Lord’s Prayer: Part Five. In the Lord’s Prayer, we petition that God would “give us this day our daily bread.” This is a comforting and encouraging note, as we consider how God does provide for our every need. He knows and gives us physical and spiritual needs alike. We also know that we don’t need to worry about everything that will happen “someday,” but that He will provide for this day. These crafts celebrate that. A “Thanksgiving Bread Basket” recounts how God takes care of us each day. A “Bread Plate Collage” recalls the numerous Biblical mentions of bread. They pair with our Our Daily Bread Sunday School lesson and our Elijah and the Widow children’s sermon — and if you’d like the whole prayer in a print-and-teach format, start with the free sample lesson from Prayer Power Lab. Let’s get crafty!

Craft One: Thanksgiving Bread Basket
A “Thanksgiving Bread Basket” gives children a place to name the things God provides, one loaf at a time.

You will need:
- Paper plate
- Pipe cleaner or string (optional)
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Glue or tape
- Stapler
- Scissors
- Markers or crayons
Procedure:
- Cut the paper plate in half, and decorate it to look like a basket, using markers, crayons, or string for texture.
- Cut out several bread shapes from paper or cardstock. On each one, write a way that God provides for us, or an item that He has provided and we can give thanks for.
- Staple the sides of the plate together to form the “basket.” If desired, add a pipe cleaner or string handle to hang the basket.
- Add verses or captions, and use the basket to thank God for all He provides.

Craft Two: Bread Plate Collage
A “Bread Plate Collage” turns a paper plate into a reminder of God’s faithfulness, using real bread items.

You will need:
- Paper plate
- Crayons or markers
- Extra decorations (stickers, gems, etc.)
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Ribbon, string, or pipe cleaner (optional)
- Bread items: crackers, croutons, pretzels, pasta noodles, real bread, etc.
Procedure:
- Glue the bread items in a decorative pattern onto the paper plate or construction paper/cardstock.
- Add extra decorations or color, as desired.
- Add verses or captions to the plate.
- Add a string or pipe cleaner to hang the collage, if desired, or use it as a centerpiece or hanging reminder of God’s faithfulness and providence.

Verses and Captions to Consider
- Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. -Matthew 6:31-34
- Give us this day our daily bread. -Matthew 6:11
- God gives us all we need…our daily BREAD!
- The Lord provides…
- God gives us our daily bread.
