The story of Hannah and Samuel is a great way to remind children of God’s faithfulness and of the importance of prayer. Even when we don’t get what we want in the way we might hope, we know God loves us and hears all of our prayers, of supplication, praise and thanks.
These crafts focus on prayer. A “Prayer Phone” serves as a microphone or “telephone” replica. A Prayer Journal provides a method to write (or draw) prayers. Let’s get crafty!
Bible Crafts on Hanna’s Prayer, 1 Samuel 1:4-20
Craft one: “Prayer Phone” You will need:
Cups (foam optimal)
Glue or tape
Scissors
Markers or crayons
Construction paper or cardstock
Decorations (stickers, etc.)
Pipe Cleaners
Procedure:
Cut the bottom ends out of the cups.
Decorate the cups with stickers, verses, and captions. Alternatively (or in addition), write a caption on a piece of paper or cardstock.
Glue or tape the cups together, bottom to bottom.
Add a pipe cleaner, if desired, for a handle. Use as a megaphone (to talk to God) or listening device (to hear from Him)!
Craft Two: “Prayer Journal” You will need:
Markers or crayons
Paper or cardstock
Scissors
Glue or tape
Extra decorations (gems, stickers, etc.)
Notebook or diary
Procedure:
Decorate the outside of the journal with labels and verses. This can be done using varied papers with glue or tape. You can also write directly on the notebook.
Add extra decorations as desired to embellish.
If desired, write out designations within the notebook to categorize pages and sections of prayers.
Use the book to write or draw prayers or to remember requests (or both!).
