How Apollos, Priscilla, and Aquila Worked Together (Acts 18:24–28) Bible Story for Kids

Have you ever watched a sports team work perfectly together? Think about a soccer game. One player passes the ball down the field, another player catches it with their foot and makes a perfect cross, and a third player kicks it right into the back of the net. GOAL! It takes teamwork to win.

The Bible tells us about an amazing team of friends in the early church who worked together to score major goals for God’s Kingdom. Their names were Apollos, Priscilla, and Aquila.

Their story, found in Acts 18:24–28, is a thrilling adventure about a brilliant speaker, a kind husband-and-wife duo, and a mystery that needed solving. It teaches us how God uses different people with different gifts to help each other grow!

Meet Apollos: The Energetic Speaker

Our story starts in a beautiful, busy city called Ephesus. One day, a new man rolled into town. His name was Apollos, and he was from a giant city called Alexandria.

Apollos was incredibly smart. The Bible describes him as an eloquent man, which means he was an amazing speaker. When Apollos stood up to talk, people didn’t look at their shoes or daydream. They listened to every single word! He also knew his Bible inside and out (back then, the Bible was the Old Testament scriptures).

But the best thing about Apollos wasn’t just his smart brain or his booming voice. The Bible says he was “fervent in spirit.” That means his heart was on fire for God! He had tons of energy, and he loved telling people the truth about Jesus.

Apollos walked right into the local synagogue—the place where Jewish people gathered to learn—and started preaching boldly. Everyone was amazed by his passion.

The Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Even though Apollos was an awesome preacher, there was just one small problem. He didn’t know the whole story yet.

The Bible tells us that Apollos only knew about the baptism of John.

John the Baptist was the man who preached in the desert, telling people to say sorry for their bad choices and get baptized in the river to prepare for the Messiah. Apollos knew that Jesus was the Messiah, but he didn’t know everything that happened after John. He didn’t know the full story about Jesus dying on the cross, bursting out of the tomb, sending the Holy Spirit like wind and fire, and building the global church!

Enter Priscilla and Aquila: The Helpful Listeners

Sitting in the audience that day were a husband and wife named Priscilla and Aquila. They were regular church members who made tents for a living, and they were close friends with the Apostle Paul. Because they had spent so much time learning from Paul, they knew the complete story of Jesus perfectly.

As they listened to Apollos preach, they smiled because they loved his energy. But with their sharp ears, they noticed those missing puzzle pieces. They realized Apollos didn’t know the whole truth yet.

Now, Priscilla and Aquila could have done something mean. They could have stood up in front of everyone, pointed their fingers, and yelled, “Hey Apollos! You got it wrong! You don’t know what you’re talking about!” That would have hurt Apollos’s feelings and made him look bad in front of the whole crowd.

Instead, Priscilla and Aquila showed us what true Christian love looks like. They waited until the meeting was over, walked up to Apollos, and quietly invited him over to their house for dinner!

A Cozy Dinner and a Big Lesson

Can you imagine that dinner? Sitting around the table, eating warm bread and stew, Priscilla and Aquila didn’t criticize Apollos. Instead, the Bible says they “explained to him the way of God more accurately.”

They gently told him all the missing parts of the puzzle. They likely told him about the Last Supper, the cross, the empty tomb, and how the Holy Spirit was now changing lives everywhere.

This moment tells us something incredible about Apollos, too. Even though he was famous, smart, and a great speaker, he wasn’t proud or arrogant. He didn’t say, “I’m the preacher here, you can’t teach me anything!” No, Apollos was humble. He sat down, listened to this tent-making couple, and eagerly learned from them.

Because Priscilla and Aquila were kind, and because Apollos was willing to listen, the missing puzzle pieces clicked right into place!

Scoring Goals for God’s Kingdom

Once Apollos had the full story, he was unstoppable! He decided to travel across the sea to a place called Achaia to keep preaching.

Priscilla, Aquila, and the rest of the church family in Ephesus were so proud of him. They didn’t want him to go alone, so they wrote an encouraging letter to the believers in the next town, basically saying: “Hey friends, welcome Apollos! He is part of our team, and he is awesome!”

When Apollos arrived in his new mission field, he was a massive help to the church. The Bible says he powerfully showed everyone from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of the world. His ministry grew stronger than ever because a humble couple took the time to help him.

Awesome Teamwork Lessons for You!

The story of Apollos, Priscilla, and Aquila isn’t just history; it gives us three super-cool principles for our lives today:

• Nobody Knows Everything (And That’s Okay!): Apollos was a powerhouse preacher, but he still had things to learn. Never be afraid to say, “I don’t know,” or to listen when a parent, teacher, or friend tries to help you understand the Bible better. Staying humble makes you a great learner!
• Correct Others with Kindness: If someone makes a mistake or doesn’t understand a Bible truth, don’t make fun of them or embarrass them. Follow Priscilla and Aquila’s example: be gentle, pull them aside privately, and help them with love.
• We Are All on the Same Team: God didn’t give everyone the same gifts. Apollos was great at public speaking. Priscilla and Aquila were great at hosting people, listening, and teaching one-on-one. The church needs both! Your unique gifts are exactly what the team needs to share Jesus with the world.
