Happy Father’s Day for the Month of June for Children Ministry

A Hero in Our Lives: Celebrating Dads on Father’s Day!

Hey amazing kids! Can you believe it’s June already? And do you know what super special day is coming up very, very soon? That’s right! It’s Father’s Day! It’s a day when we get to celebrate some of the most important, coolest, and often silliest people in our lives: our dads, grandpas, uncles, stepdads, or any special grown-up man who is like a father to us!

We believe that dads are like real-life superheroes! They might not wear capes, but they do incredible things for us every single day. Let’s think about all the ways our dads show up for us, love us, and help us grow.

Father’s Day is a beautiful time to celebrate the incredible men who guide, protect, and love us. The Bible, filled with countless stories of faith and humanity, offers us inspiring examples of fathers who, in their own unique ways, showed amazing qualities. These stories remind us of the powerful and irreplaceable role fathers play in our lives, pointing us to the ultimate example of our Heavenly Father.

“Amazing Dad” stories from the Bible that we can reflect on this Father’s Day:

Abraham: The Father of Faith and Obedience (Genesis 12, 15, 22)

Abraham is famously known as the “father of many nations” and the “father of faith.” His story is a testament to trust and obedience, not just as a man, but as a father.

  • His Amazing Qualities:
    • Unwavering Faith: God called Abraham to leave his homeland and go to a place he didn’t know, promising him countless descendants despite him being very old and his wife Sarah being barren. Abraham believed God’s promise, even when it seemed impossible. This incredible faith shaped his family’s destiny.
    • Obedience and Trust: The ultimate test of Abraham’s faith came when God asked him to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. Imagine the heartbreak and confusion! Yet, Abraham, in incredible obedience, prepared to do what God commanded, trusting that God had a plan, even if he didn’t understand it. Just as he was about to carry out the act, God intervened, providing a ram instead. This act wasn’t about God wanting Isaac’s life, but about confirming Abraham’s radical trust in His divine provision and plan.
    • Guidance and Legacy: Abraham passed on his faith to Isaac, and through Isaac, to Jacob, establishing a lineage of faith that eventually led to Jesus Christ. He didn’t just teach his son; he lived out his faith before him, showing him what it meant to walk with God.
  • Father’s Day Reflection: Abraham teaches us that amazing fathers are men of faith who trust God even when things are difficult. They lead their families by example, demonstrating what it means to be obedient to God’s call and to believe in His promises.

Noah: The Father of Protection and Perseverance (Genesis 6-9)

Noah’s story is one of extraordinary obedience in the face of widespread corruption, leading to the preservation of his entire family and the restart of humanity.

  • His Amazing Qualities:
    • Obedience to God’s Call: When God decided to cleanse the earth with a flood due to humanity’s wickedness, He chose Noah, a righteous man, to build an ark. This was no small task – it was enormous, took years, and required immense faith, as rain was likely an unheard-of phenomenon at the time! Noah didn’t question or hesitate; he did exactly as God commanded.
    • Protection and Provision for His Family: Noah meticulously followed God’s instructions to build the ark, gather the animals, and lead his family safely inside. He worked tirelessly to ensure the survival of his wife, sons (Shem, Ham, Japheth), and daughters-in-law. His diligent efforts provided a refuge from the coming storm.
    • Perseverance Against Odds: Imagine being mocked and ridiculed for building a giant boat in the middle of dry land, year after year. Noah faced immense skepticism, yet he persevered in his task, trusting God’s word above all else. His commitment saved his family.
  • Father’s Day Reflection: Noah reminds us that amazing fathers are protectors and providers. They stand firm in their faith, even when ridiculed, and work diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of their families. They persevere through challenges, guided by their trust in God.

Joseph: The Earthly Father of Jesus – A Man of Righteousness and Compassion (Matthew 1-2, Luke 2)

Joseph, though not Jesus’s biological father, played an incredibly vital role as His earthly dad. He was a righteous, compassionate, and obedient man chosen by God for this extraordinary task.

  • His Amazing Qualities:
    • Righteousness and Compassion: When Joseph discovered Mary was pregnant, he, being a righteous man, decided to quietly divorce her to protect her from public shame and possible stoning. This shows his deep concern for Mary’s reputation and well-being, even before he understood the divine intervention.
    • Obedience to God’s Will: An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, revealing that Mary’s pregnancy was by the Holy Spirit and that he was to take her as his wife and name the child Jesus. Joseph, despite his initial plans, immediately obeyed. Later, angels appeared again, telling him to flee to Egypt to protect Jesus from Herod, and then to return to Nazareth. Each time, Joseph responded with prompt and unquestioning obedience.
    • Protector and Provider: Joseph took on the weighty responsibility of protecting and providing for Mary and Jesus. He uprooted his family multiple times to ensure Jesus’s safety and worked as a carpenter, providing for their daily needs. He taught Jesus a trade, instilling in Him the value of hard work and skill.
    • Humble and Dedicated: Joseph never sought glory for himself. He humbly accepted his divine assignment, quietly fulfilling his role as Jesus’s earthly father, guiding Him, teaching Him, and raising Him in a righteous home in Nazareth.
  • Father’s Day Reflection: Joseph teaches us that amazing fathers are righteous, compassionate, and obedient to God’s leading. They protect their children, provide for them through diligent work, and humbly raise them with values that honor God, even when facing challenging and unconventional circumstances.

God the Father: The Perfect, Ultimate Father (John 3:16, Matthew 6:9-13, Psalm 103:13)

While we celebrate earthly fathers, Father’s Day is also a powerful reminder of our Heavenly Father, God Himself, who is the perfect example of fatherhood.

  • His Amazing Qualities:
    • Unconditional Love: John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” His love is boundless, sacrificial, and unconditional.
    • Perfect Provider: Just as good earthly fathers provide for their children, God provides for all our needs, spiritual and physical. He cares for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, how much more does He care for us, His children?
    • Compassionate and Forgiving: Psalm 103:13 says, “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” He is merciful, slow to anger, and rich in love, always ready to forgive us when we turn back to Him.
    • Wise Guide and Teacher: God teaches us through His Word, the Bible, guiding us in wisdom and truth. He disciplines us for our good, just like a loving father corrects his child, to help us grow and become more like Him.
    • Always Present: Unlike earthly fathers who might sometimes be busy or far away, our Heavenly Father is always with us, hearing our prayers, comforting us in sorrow, and rejoicing with us in joy.
  • Father’s Day Reflection: God the Father sets the standard for perfect fatherhood. He reminds us that true fatherly love is characterized by unconditional love, faithful provision, compassionate forgiveness, wise guidance, and a constant, comforting presence. He is the ultimate “Amazing Dad” we can all look to.

This Father’s Day, let’s thank God for the amazing dads and father figures in our lives. Let’s appreciate their sacrifices, their love, their protection, and their guidance. And let’s remember that ultimately, we all have a perfect Heavenly Father who loves us beyond measure, always and forever. Happy Father’s Day!

You know what’s super cool? The Bible tells us that we have another amazing Father – our Heavenly Father, God! Just like our earthly dads, God protects us, teaches us, plays with us (in His own special ways, through joy and creation!), cheers us on, and loves us with an even bigger, perfect, never-ending love.

  • God is our Protector: The Bible says in Psalm 91:4, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” Just like a dad keeps his kids safe, God always watches over us.
  • God is our Teacher: He teaches us right from wrong through His Word, the Bible. He guides us and shows us the best path to take.
  • God is Our Provider: He gives us everything we need, from the air we breathe to the food we eat, and all the beautiful things around us.
  • God is Our Loving Father: John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This is the ultimate example of a Father’s love!

How Can We Celebrate Our Dads?

On Father’s Day, it’s our turn to show our dads how much we appreciate them. Here are some ideas:

  1. Give Him a Big Hug: A warm hug can mean the world!
  2. Tell Him “Thank You”: Tell him specific things you appreciate, like “Thank you for playing catch with me!” or “Thank you for helping me with my homework!”
  3. Make Him Something Special: A handmade card, a drawing, or a craft from Kids Ministry shows you put thought and love into it.
  4. Help Around the House: Offer to do a chore without being asked – maybe clean your room, set the table, or help with the dishes. That’s a huge gift!
  5. Spend Time with Him: Ask him to play his favorite game, go for a walk, or just sit and chat. Time together is precious.
  6. Pray for Him: You can pray for his health, his work, and that God will bless him.
