Craft Activities for Children Jeremiah 31 Turn the Frown Around!
This lesson focuses on words from the prophet Jeremiah. Although referred to as the “weeping prophet” for the many hardships he faced, the message he gave in this passage is one of hope and promise of restoration. Jeremiah preached of God’s love and faithfulness. These crafts reflect on the good news of Jeremiah 31. A “Dancing Lady Puppet” recalls the verse that mentions rejoicing with dance. A “Sad to Glad Mask” offer a reminder of how God can transform our emotions and lives. Let’s get crafty!
Bible Crafts on “Sadness into Gladness” Jeremiah 31
Craft one: “Dancing Lady Puppet” You will need:
Paper bags
Construction paper or cardstock
Markers or crayons
Extra decorations (stickers, googly eyes, etc.)
Scissors
Glue or tape
Procedure:
Decorate the paper bag like a person, adding facial features (drawn, cut, or otherwise) and hair.
Add “clothing” and additional decorations as desired.
Cut out arms and legs, and attach them to the bag to look like dancing body parts.
Write or attach verses and captions. Use the puppet to remember the rejoicing and dancing that was promised in Jeremiah.
Craft Two: “Sad to Glad Mask” You will need:
Paper plates
Construction Paper or cardstock
Scissors
Glue or tape
Popsicle stick
Extra decorations (stickers, string, etc.)
Markers or crayons
Procedure:
On one side of the paper plate, decorate with a very sad-looking face.
Attach caption that mentions what makes a student feel sad or upset.
On the other side of the plate, decorate to look extra joyful. Add captions to the flipside of the paper, as well.
If desired, attach a popsicle stick to make the plate a mask, or add a string to hang it and remember how God has the power to change our emotions.
