The theme of this lesson focuses on the hope of the Advent season. As the Israelites hoped for a Messiah, we hope for Jesus to return one day. In the meantime, we have the hope of His daily presence with us. These crafts celebrate the beginning of Advent and the concept of hope. A “Musical Note” scroll displays a favorite Christmas song. A “Waiting Wreath” honors the anticipation of Jesus at Advent. Let’s get crafty!
Bible Crafts on “Signs of Hope” Luke 21: 25-36
Craft one: “Musical Note” Scroll You will need:
Paper towel tube (or similar “scroll” item)
Construction paper or cardstock
Markers or crayons
Glue or tape
Scissors
Decorations (stickers, gems, jingle bells, etc.)
String or pipe cleaner
Procedure:
On one or several pieces of paper, write out a favorite Christmas hymn (or part of one, perhaps just the chorus).
Decorate the paper and the tube to look either festive or ancient.
Glue or tape the top of the paper to the tube, and wrap it around the tube.
Add string or pipe cleaner to tie off the “scroll.”
Use the song as a celebratory decoration or give to someone as an encouraging gift and “note of music.”
Craft Two: “Waiting Wreath” You will need:
Paper plate
Pipe cleaner or string
Construction paper or cardstock
Scissors
Glue or tape
Extra decorations (stickers, glitter, etc.)
Procedure: 1. Cut the center out of the paper plate to create a more wreath-like shape.
Use green and red paper to cut out leaf shapes and holly berries.
Glue the leaves and berries around the wreath.
Add verses or captions to remember that Advent is a time of hope and waiting.
Attach a string or pipe cleaner to hang the wreath, if desired.
