Craft Activities for Children Nehemiah 8 The Celebration of Jerusalem Wall
Nehemiah knew that the joy of the Lord was his strength, and he stood up against challenges to build the wall around Jerusalem and restore the hope and protection of the people. We know that God provides for us and that His joy is our strength, too. These crafts recall who Nehemiah was and what he did. A “Personalized Brick Wall” puts paper bag bricks together to build a collective piece. A “Creative Building Fortress” uses unique (and edible) objects for fun construction. Let’s get crafty!
Bible Crafts on “The Rebuilding of Jerusalem Wall” Nehemiah 8
Craft one: “Personalized Brick Wall” You will need:
Paper bags (or cardboard boxes)
Crayons or markers
Glue or tape
Scissors
Construction paper or cardstock
Newspaper or tissue paper (optional)
Extra decorations (stickers, glitter, etc.)
Procedure:
Decorate the outside of the bag with verses, captions, and personalization.
Add stickers, glitter, or other items as desired.
For additional texture, stuff the bag with tissue or newspaper.
Carefully seal the bag with glue, tape, or staples to maintain rectangular shape.
Place the “bricks” together and, if possible, display in a classroom or other area where they can be viewed as a collective “wall”.
Craft Two: “Creative Building Fortress” You will need:
Paper plates or cardboard (for base)
Markers or crayons
Paper or cardstock
Glue or tape
Scissors
Cups OR
Marshmallows (any size/variety, or combination)
Frosting (optional)
Procedure: Build a creative wall to remember the story of Nehemiah! Option 1: Fortress of Cups. Decorate several foam or paper cups with verses, captions, or other decorations.
Tape, glue, or staple the cups together in a tower or pyramid pattern to create a wall of sorts.
Add a paper caption with verses to remember the wall of Nehemiah.
Option 2: Build a “wall” with marshmallows. Glue marshmallows together to make a wall on a plate foundation. Alternatively, use frosting to create an edible wall. Decorate the plate or a paper, and enjoy the “wall” as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and strength, seen in the account of Nehemiah.
